Meet the Crew!
Avila Beach Paddlesports was founded in 2009 by Central Coast locals Vincent and Emily Shay. Vince and Em have decades of local water expertise to create the best experience for you and your family. Their goal was to create a friendly neighborhood paddling shop dedicated to kayak and stand up paddleboard (SUP) rentals, lessons, and eco-friendly Adventure Tours that cater to all abilities.
Avila Beach Paddlesports is popular with visitors and locals alike. Avila Beach Paddlesports has received the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for several years in a row and is consistently rated 5 stars on Yelp. In 2016 and 2017, Avila Beach Paddlesports was Awarded Top Honors in the New Times 'Best of SLO County Readers Poll' in the category "Best Company to Get You Out on the Water." Thanks, SLO County!
The enthusiastic, friendly staff (aka, 'The Supercrew!') consists of very skilled and highly-trained watermen and waterwomen. They are ocean amabassadors who love sharing their "stoke" with customers. It is obvious that they love their jobs and work together as a team to make sure guests are safe, have fun, and become better paddlers. Whether it is a kayak or paddleboard rental or one of the popular Adventure Tours, the SuperCrew makes sure all customers get the attention they need to have the best experience ever!
About Vincent & Emily Shay
Vincent and Emily love what they do! They both have spent most of their lives on the Central Coast and have years of experience in the water here and up and down the coast of California. If you don't find them at their shop here in Avila Beach, you will probably see them paddling, surfing or just being near the water.
Vincent was a competitive kayaker and is an award winning photographer. His images of the Humpback Whales that visit the Central Coast waters to feed have been gaining a lot of buzz over the last few years. You can see some of these images at Avila Beach Paddlesports or visit his website: www.VincentShayPhotography.com
Emily graduated from Cal Poly SLO with a Degree in English and also completed her Masters Degree in Education. Her passion is empowering At-Risk Youth through literacy development. If she's not at the shop, she's likely in the classroom working with the amazing young men and women of California Conservation Corps.
